PITTSBURGH — A couple allege the City of Pittsburgh's failure to fix or warn of a dangerous condition on a bike path on the 40th Street Bridge resulted in the wife's injuries.

Joanna Balough-Reynolds and Christopher Reynolds filed a complaint March 2 in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County against The City of Pittsburgh alleging negligence.

According to the Reynolds' complaint, Joanna Balough-Reynolds was riding her bike across the 40th Street Bridge in the bicycle lane on Sept. 18, 2021. They claim her bike tire struck a mound of roadway paving or resurfacing material which caused her to fall to the ground.

The plaintiffs claim Joanna Balough-Reynolds suffered a fractured foot, nerve damage and other injuries as a result of her fall. They allege the City of Pittsburgh's negligence for failing to maintain the bike lane of the roadway, failing to conduct reasonable inspections of the area and removing the dangerous condition. The plaintiffs also claim the City of Pittsburgh failed to post a notice warning about the hazard or barricade or restrict access to that portion of the roadway.

The plaintiffs seek monetary relief of more than $50,000, trial by jury and all other just relief. They are represented by Edward Balzarini, Jr., of Balzarini & Watson in Pittsburgh.
