MEDIA — A business owner claims the website designer he paid more than $20,000 failed to provide the promised services.

Joel Harden filed a complaint April 6 in the Court of Common Pleas of Delaware County against John Buchanan and Buchanan SEO alleging breach of contract, defamation and other claims.

Harden, according to his complaint, hired Buchanan in December of 2020, to develop a website for his classified advertising and payment/escrow processing company for a $4,500 retainer fee. Harden claims Buchanan agreed to develop an app for his website and that he paid Buchanan an $7,500 retainer. He further claims he and Buchanan entered into a non-disclosure agreement in January of 2021, in which Buchanan agreed to not disclose the nature of his business to any third party.

Harden alleges he also paid Buchanan $3,000 per month from July 2021 through October 2021 as well as $8,900 for software for his website. He claims Buchanan failed to provide a working website or any of the services that he had paid for and that he has suffered more than $50,000 in damages. He also claims Buchanan posted derogatory comments on the internet including stating he was a "member of the black mafia" and false statements that he owed Buchanan "vast sums of money."

Harden seeks monetary relief of more than $50,000 and all other just relief. He is represented by Attorney Jermaine Harris in Philadelphia.
