Jones Day named Litigation Department of the Year Finalist in Pennsylvania and Texas

2a

Jones Day is recognized as a Finalist in The American Lawyer's Pennsylvania and Texas Litigation Department of the Year categories, part of the "The American Lawyer Industry Awards" for 2022.

For Pennsylvania, Jones Day's litigators continued their track record of success in litigating and defending bet-the-company cases across industries, jurisdictions, and case types. Examples include winning dismissal in a multi-million dollar claim of unfair competition on behalf of a major U.S. multinational manufacturer in federal court; defeating class claims in a matter of first impression at the intersection of technology, federal jurisdiction, and privacy rights; winning precedential appellate decisions from the Seventh Circuit and the South Carolina Supreme Court on, respectively, long-running products liability claims and a high-stakes insurance coverage dispute; and successfully defending a major financial institution in a series of putative class action and individual lawsuits filed by institutional investors. Throughout the year, wins came in arbitrations, lawsuits, courts of appeal, and agency proceedings across the country.

The Jones Day Texas team in Dallas and Houston remains at the forefront of significant litigation in Texas and across the United States with a year punctuated by trial victories and successful motion practice. Significant achievements include securing a landmark antitrust class action jury verdict; employing winning strategies on behalf of a network of air-ambulance providers to combat state laws seeking to regulate rates and prevent membership programs; obtaining dismissal of all claims against a global software company in a trade secret, copyright, and antitrust lawsuit; winning summary judgment in a D&O insurance case involving the insurability of settlements under the False Claims Act; and prevailing in U.S. Bankruptcy Court against a motion to dismiss by claimants, thereby protecting a structure to resolve mass tort liability claims.

The American Lawyer's annual industry awards program celebrates "the most impressive work being done across the legal industry and the lawyers making it happen." The 2022 Finalists will be recognized in November at an awards gala in New York where the winners will be announced.
