A tragic case of alleged medical negligence has surfaced, drawing attention to the responsibilities and potential failings of healthcare providers in correctional facilities. Kelly Wilson filed a complaint on July 30, 2024, in the Dauphin County Court of Common Pleas against PrimeCare Medical, Inc., following the death of her father, Robert William Young.

Kelly Wilson, acting as the administratrix of her father's estate, alleges that PrimeCare Medical, Inc., through its agents and employees, failed to provide proper medical care to Robert Young while he was incarcerated at Mercer County Jail from May 2023 until his death in June 2023. According to the complaint, Mr. Young was receiving daily doses of Prozac (fluoxetine), an anti-depressant. On June 13, 2023, after receiving his medication from a nurse identified as Kaitlyn Vannoy, L.P.N., Mr. Young was found unresponsive and later pronounced dead at Allegheny Health Network Grove City.

The coroner's investigation revealed that Mr. Young's death resulted from Serotonin Syndrome due to a significantly elevated level of fluoxetine combined with other medications. The death certificate listed "toxic effects of Fluoxetine in combination with Mirtazapine" and "prescription medication mishap" as causes of death. Wilson claims that this tragedy could have been avoided if PrimeCare Medical had administered the correct dosage and properly managed her father's medications.

Wilson's lawsuit accuses PrimeCare Medical and its staff—Paula Dillman-McGowan, C.R.N.P., Jennifer Peluso, R.N., Kaitlyn Vannoy, L.P.N., Chris Rauch, L.P.N., Amanda Coulter, L.P.N., among others—of professional negligence. She asserts that they failed to provide adequate medical care by negligently dispensing incorrect dosages and failing to oversee medication administration properly. The complaint highlights multiple instances where PrimeCare's actions allegedly fell below acceptable medical standards.

The plaintiff seeks damages exceeding arbitration limits for wrongful death under the Wrongful Death Act (42 Pa.C.S.A. §8301) and survival action under the Survival Act (42 Pa.C.S.A. §8302). Wilson argues that her father's suffering and subsequent death were direct results of PrimeCare's negligence.

Representing Kelly Wilson are attorneys David J. Caputo and Colin James Beisel from Youman & Caputo LLC.

The Case ID is: 2024-CV-05118.
