Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania has taken legal action against a construction company, alleging significant damage to its gas infrastructure. The complaint was filed by Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County on June 3, 2024, targeting Niando Construction Inc. as the defendant.
The case revolves around an incident that occurred on June 3, 2024, when Niando Construction Inc., a Pennsylvania-based corporation, allegedly caused damage to Columbia Gas's gas mains and pipes during excavation work at 12 Fernwood Dr, Pittsburgh. Columbia Gas claims that this excavation led to the bursting and breaking of their gas mains and other essential appliances necessary for delivering natural gas to residents and businesses in the area. The plaintiff asserts that they had installed these gas lines at considerable expense using high-quality materials to prevent such incidents.
According to the complaint, Niando Construction should have been aware of the presence of these underground utilities but proceeded with their work regardless. This negligence resulted in damages amounting to $3,535.94, which Columbia Gas had to incur for repairs. The utility company is seeking compensation for these repair costs from Niando Construction Inc., along with any additional court costs associated with the lawsuit.
Columbia Gas is represented by attorney William T. Molczan from Weltman, Weinberg & Reis Co., L.P.A., based in Pittsburgh. The case has been assigned Case ID WWR# 041582857 and will be heard in front of a board of arbitrators at the Compulsory Arbitration Center if not settled beforehand.
