Meta Jones has filed a lawsuit against the City of Pittsburgh and The Kingsley Association, claiming negligence after sustaining injuries from a fall on an uneven sidewalk. The complaint was filed in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, on July 25, 2023. Jones accuses both defendants of failing to maintain safe conditions on Paulson Avenue, where she tripped due to resurfacing work conducted by city employees.
According to the complaint, Meta Jones was walking along Paulson Avenue's western sidewalk when she attempted to cross into the Kingsley Association property. At that time, City of Pittsburgh employees were resurfacing the road, leaving it in a milled state. This condition allegedly caused Jones to trip and fall at the driveway entrance "skirt," resulting in significant injuries including a tear of her right medial meniscus and bilateral knee contusions. The plaintiff claims these injuries have led to ongoing pain, suffering, mental anguish, and substantial medical expenses.
Jones asserts that both defendants had a duty of care to ensure safe passage for pedestrians and failed in this responsibility by allowing hazardous conditions to persist without adequate warnings or corrective measures. The complaint details several allegations against both parties: failure to inspect and maintain the premises properly, neglecting to warn about potential dangers, and not eliminating unsafe conditions promptly. As stated in the document, "Defendant knew or should have known of the dangerous, hazardous, unsafe and defective condition" yet did not act accordingly.
In seeking justice through this legal action, Meta Jones demands judgment against both defendants for damages within the jurisdictional limits of compulsory arbitration. She requests compensation for her medical expenses and other related costs incurred due to their alleged negligence. Additionally, she seeks court costs and any further relief deemed appropriate by the court.
