Ohio bank employee alleges insurance company wrongfully denied benefits

Insurance 08

PITTSBURGH — An Ohio woman is suing Life Insurance Company of North America d/b/a Cigna Group Insurance, citing alleged breach of contract for denying her disability benefits.

Carmen D. Montevecchio filed a complaint on Feb. 28 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania alleging that the insurance company denied claims made by the plaintiff for long-term disability benefits.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff, who was insured by the defendant through her employment at Fifth Third Bank, alleges that in December 2016, she became entitled to receive disability benefits but was denied. The plaintiff holds the company responsible because it allegedly denied her claim for benefits despite having sufficient medical evidence for her disability.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendant for all benefits due including interest, court costs and any further relief the court grants. She is represented by Francis M. Moore of Mansmann & Moore LLP in Pittsburgh.
