PHILADELPHIA — A chain Mexican restaurant faces allegations of religious discrimination by a former Muslim employee.

Malikah Weaver filed a complaint on Aug. 22 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc., Chipotle Services LLC, Owen Paradiso and Robert Wright.

Weaver alleges the company, frachise owner and manager violated the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act.

According to the complaint, Weaver was terminated after Wright, a manager, demanded she remove her khimar, a religious head covering.

As a result, Weaver claims she suffered loss of income, emotional pain, humiliation and inconvenience.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment in an amount to be determined at the time of trial plus interest. She is represented by J. Patrick Griffin of Derek Smith Law Group in Philadelphia.
