PITTSBURGH – A woman who says she suffered a scratched cornea and may have permanent loss of vision in one eye is suing Big Boy Markets, alleging that she was sold contact lenses without a prescription.

Rahia Williams filed the complaint July 29 in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County, alleging negligence and seeking punitive damages.

According to the complaint, Williams bought a box of contact lenses at Big Boy Markets without being aware that she needed a prescription for them. She said the defendant should have required a prescription from her but instead sold the contacts without one. The contact lenses caused the damage to her eye, the complaint said.

She is seeking damages beyond the arbitrary limit of the court, attorney fees and court costs. The plaintiff is represented by Eric J. Randolph.
