PITTSBURGH – A woman who says she suffered severe and possibly permanent injuries to her legs and back when she was struck by a drunken driver filed a lawsuit against the bar that served the driver.
Melissa Mondron, who was hit by the car, husband Jonathan Mondron and Debra A. Trush filed the complaint Aug. 2 in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County against Bar 3 Millvale.
Mondron and Trush were placing laundry baskets in the trunk of Mondron's vehicle on March 31 when a vehicle driven by Vanessa Williams struck Mondron and then her car, crushing her between them, the lawsuit said. Trush had stepped toward the curb where the car was parked and witnessed the crash, the lawsuit said.
Williams had been drinking at Bar 3 and was not in a safe condition to drive, which Bar 3 should have known and helped to prevent, the lawsuit said in accusing Bar 3 of negligence.
Mondron is seeking damages beyond the $35,000 court limit, attorney fees and court costs. Jonathan Mondron, claiming loss of his wife's care and companionship, is also seeking an amount beyond $35,000, as is Tursh, who claimed emotional trauma. They are represented by John A. Caputo of John A. Caputo & Associates in Pittsburgh. They demanded a jury trial.
