PITTSBURGH — A Pittsburgh bar is facing a wrongful death claim after one of its patrons left intoxicated, flipped his vehicle and suffered fatal injuries.
Susan M. Stevens, individually and as administrator of the Estate of Ronald A. Stevens, filed a complaint Sept. 10 in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County against Candygirl ENT LLC doing business as Hop's Place alleging negligence and wrongful death.
According to Stevens' complaint, her husband Ronald Stevens was a patron at Hop's Place on Shadeland Avenue in Pittsburgh on Sept. 13, 2019, where he consumed a "large quantity" of alcoholic beverages. She alleges that despite her husband being "visibly and noticeably" intoxicated, Hop's continued to permit him to consume alcohol. Stevens further alleges her husband then left Hop's Place, drove his car and lost control of the vehicle and hit a guard rail.
She claims Stevens then flipped the vehicle, struck a bridge abutment, was ejected from the vehicle and suffered fatal injuries including head trauma and laceration of his liver. Stevens alleges Hop's negligence for continuing to serve her husband alcohol, failing to offer or arrange for his alternate transportation, failing to properly train or instruct its employees and failing to notify law enforcement to prevent him from driving.
Stevens seeks monetary relief of more than $30,000, trial by jury and all other just relief. She is represented by Jonathan Orie of Orie & Zivic in Pittsburgh.
