PITTSBURGH — A woman is claiming negligence against the City of Pittsburgh after allegedly suffering serious injuries after a fall on a defective sidewalk.
Bonnie Hirst filed a complaint in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County against High Six Associates LP and the City of Pittsburgh alleging negligence.
According to her complaint, Hirst parked her car at public garage on Sixth Street in Pittsburgh on Oct. 10, 2019. She alleges that as she walked toward her office along Penn Avenue, a police officer who was investigating "suspicious packages" on the walkway, instructed her to cross the street mid-block.
Hirst claims that as she walked along the sidewalk, she tripped and fell violently after her foot got caught on a section of the sidewalk with fractured pieces, divots and unevenness. She alleges as a result of the fall, she suffered fractures to her foot and ankle that required surgery as well as sprains, contusions and abrasions. Hirst claims the City of Pittsburgh's negligence for allowing the hazardous and unsafe condition on the sidewalk to exist, failing to warn of the danger or cordon off the section of the sidewalk. She also claims the City of Pittsburgh failed to timely and properly inspect the sidewalk.
Hirst seeks monetary relief, trial by jury and all other just relief. She is represented by G. Christopher Apessos of Apessos Law LLC in Pittsburgh.
