Lawsuit: Misfilled prescription gave woman manic episode

State Court
Gianteagle

PITTSBURGH -- Emily and Douglas Vida filed a complaint in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County against Giant Eagle, Inc. for negligence.

According to the Oct. 14 complaint, in April 2021, Emily Vida filled a prescription at Giant Eagle's Shaler pharmacy for 24-hour Depakote that releases over a 24-hour period. Vida alleges that the pharmacist gave Vida a 12-hour version of the medication, causing her to suffer a manic episode from which she did not recover from for more than a month.

Vida alleges that neither her, nor her psychiatrist, were aware of the misfiled prescription, therefore didn't know why the episode had occurred. Giant Eagle's pharmacy discovered the mistake about a month later and contacted Vida's psychiatrist to discuss the matter, the suit says.

Vida seeks compensatory damages. Vida is represented by Edward I. Levicoff.
