A Pennsylvania man has filed a lawsuit against a local business and township, alleging negligence that led to severe injuries. Sean Maguire lodged the complaint on June 12, 2024, in the Delaware County Court of Common Pleas against Houghton Enterprises, Inc., Bethel Township, and unnamed defendants.

According to the court documents, Maguire claims he was injured while attending the Bethel Fire Company Carnival on June 1, 2023. The plaintiff alleges that a defective mat with an electrical cord underneath caused him to trip and fall, resulting in significant injuries including a right ankle sprain and severe shock to his nervous system. Maguire contends that both Houghton Enterprises and Bethel Township failed in their duty to maintain safe premises for visitors.

The complaint outlines several instances of alleged negligence by the defendants. It accuses them of failing to inspect and repair hazardous conditions, not providing adequate safety warnings, and allowing dangerous conditions to persist. Specifically, it states: "Defendants carelessly and negligently allowed the parking lot to be kept in a dangerous condition for a prolonged period." The plaintiff also invokes legal doctrines such as respondeat superior and res ipsa loquitur to establish liability.

Maguire is seeking damages not exceeding $50,000 from each defendant for medical expenses, loss of earnings, pain and suffering, mental anguish, and other related costs. He asserts that his injuries have significantly impacted his ability to engage in daily activities and may result in long-term financial burdens due to ongoing medical treatment.

Representing Sean Maguire are attorneys Brandon A. Swartz and Caroline Fruchter from Swartz Culleton PC. The case is being presided over by judges at the Delaware County Court of Common Pleas under Case ID NO.
