PHILADELPHIA — A former employee is suing a casino over allegations of gender and race discrimination.

Ja’Neen Kirby filed a lawsuit on April 19 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against Sands Bethworks Gaming LLC and Las Vegas Sands Corp., citing violations of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act.

According to the complaint, Kirby began employment with the defendant in October 2014, working as a player development executive, until her termination on June 3, 2015. The plaintiff claims that in the weeks preceding her termination, she complained to her superior of racial and gender discrimination.

On June 3, 2015, the plaintiff avers that she entered a high-roller guest’s room to assist in selecting food and wine and was terminated for performing the service. Kirby claims that non-black and non-female employees have done so in the past without discipline, raising her claims of discrimination.

Kirby seeks compensation for all lost wages and benefits, punitive damages, costs, expense, and a trial by jury. She is represented by Ari R. Karpf of Karpf, Karpf & Cerutti PC, in Bensalem.
