The U.S. District Court of Eastern District of Pennsylvania reported the following activities in the suit brought by Board of Trustees, Roofers Union Local 30 Combined Health and Welfare Fund against Union Roofing Contractors Inc. on Jan. 3.
PHILADELPHIA – A New York man who allegedly suffered severe injuries after being struck in the face by a glass-wielding patron inside a Philadelphia nightclub has sued for damages, but defense counsel refutes the suit and says his only remedy is through the Dram Shop Act.
PHILADELPHIA – Seventeen Pennsylvania plaintiffs have sued Bristol Myers-Squibb and Otsuka Pharmaceutical over anti-psychotic prescription medication Abilify, claiming that taking the drug caused them to develop compulsive behaviors such as addictions to gambling, shopping, binge eating and sex.

PHILADELPHIA – Due to a perceived pattern of improper investigation and dismissals, a federal appeals court has upheld the payment of more than $127,000 in legal fees from Washington, D.C., firefighters who claimed hearing loss from exposure to the sirens on their fire trucks, to the manufacturers of those same devices.
PHILADELPHIA – A New York-based insurance company is looking to recover $25,000 and other damages from a Philadelphia law firm who is said to have breached the terms of its insurance policy, per a new state court lawsuit.
PITTSBURGH – A Florida oil and gas company has initiated litigation against a Pittsburgh law firm, one of its partners and an ex-associate, claiming their collective fraud and deception caused them to lose $678,000 in direct funds and $35 million in potential revenue and profit generation.
PITTSBURGH – A former locomotive engineer for Union Railroad Company alleges the company violated federal laws by providing him with both an unsafe work environment and locomotive with which to work, resulting in him suffering multiple injuries.
SCRANTON – Seventy retired and active firefighters from the Scranton, Wilkes-Barre and Dunmore fire departments believe their truck sirens are the direct cause for their allegedly suffering permanent hearing damage in the course of their work.
PHILADELPHIA – A Grays Ferry Baptist church believes its neighbor has built an encroachment on its property in Southwest Philadelphia and is suing to have the offending structure removed.
PHILADELPHIA – A New Jersey man alleges he had to undergo a partial amputation of his foot because he was not allowed to seek immediate medical treatment when he suffered an injury while on the job.
PHILADELPHIA – A Maryland attorney believes a Hampton Inn located in Center City Philadelphia was negligent in allowing bed bugs to infest the hotel and bite her while she slept, causing her serious injury.
